Months of Waiting at 7-Eleven: A Faithful Dog and the Hope That Changed His Destiny
Last year, while walking near his home in Thailand, photographer Mari-Mo met a sweet dog named Moo Dang. The pup was cheerful and friendly and kept company with his beloved owner, an elderly man who was homeless.
The dog, now cared for by 7-Eleven staff, soon went viral. And after speaking to the store owner, Mari-Mo came to learn the bittersweet story of why the dog was now resting there alone.
“I was told that Moo Dang’s owner fell ill and had to be taken to the hospital, so he started taking care of the dog,” Mari-Mo said. “After that, the dog stayed there. Then came the news that Moo Dang’s owner had died.”
Moo Dang did not receive that news, and like the most loyal of friends, she continued to wait for him for months.
Moo Dang had lost his only friend, but when word of his sad plight spread, he gained many others.
“People come to the store to feed her and play with her,” Mari-Mo said. “There is a school nearby, and students come to spend time with her. They all love her and try to give her moments of happiness.”
Moo Dang’s story went viral, and the adoption offers continued to pour in. But one stood out from the rest when it came to offering her the best possible future imaginable.
When a member of Thailand’s royal family, Princess Siribha Chudabhorn, heard about Moo Dang, she decided to ask the shop owner if she could adopt her, inviting the pup to live in her palace as her pet.
Moo Dang, who spent months waiting outside for someone who would never return, will never have to face the world alone. And while parting ways is bittersweet for those caring for her in the meantime, they know a joyful life awaits her now.
“Everyone was sad to see Moo Dang Go, but they know it’s better for her,” Mari-Mo said. “It’s very fortunate. The princess will take care of everything for her.”
Moo Dang’s story is not just about a dog’s remarkable loyalty: it also speaks to the love and care that other people gave him in return. In his darkest hour, they made sure that the light of hope never went out.
